Crossed Equatorial Guinea → Cameroon at Ebebiyín on foot — the border is walking distance from town. EG side wants FIVE photocopies of passport+visa and walks you through ~4 ledger-writing offices; over an hour. Cameroon side: 5 minutes. Onward transport to Ambam→Ebolowa→Yaoundé is easy to find.

Empty taxi picked us up on the road from Djibloho — 10,000 CFA for the hour to Mongomo, fair when split. Hostal Yoli 7,000/night. Quiet town with one big surprise: Africa's second-largest basilica after Yamoussoukro.

Minibus Bata→Añisoc 3,000 CFA, then shared taxi 2,000 to the Grand Hotel Djibloho in the future capital. Don't prebook online — reception's official list has rooms from ~60,000 CFA and the place is nearly empty. Surreal: a presidential palace, grand boulevards, and almost no city yet.

CEIBA flight Malabo→Bata ~60,000 CFA, bookable online. My original flight was cancelled without notice — the office reissued a same-day ticket free of charge, then it left 5 hours late. Standard CEIBA, plan slack. Hostal Eliom 10,000 CFA with AC (5,000 rooms exist but go fast). Bata itself is relaxed and walkable.

Equatorial Guinea e-visa worked fine online, though they insist on an exit flight — an unpaid 'pay later' booking got approved. Flew Douala→Malabo (~25 min). Central Airbnb was ~35 AUD/night, SIM card included. Minibus to Luba 2,000 CFA from the Total station near Mercado Central; Riaba 2,500 CFA. Checkpoints never asked for permits — those are only for Ureka/Pico Basile.
